#195 Golden Mountains of Altai, Russia.


Golden Mountains of Altai is the name of an UNESCO World Heritage Site consisting of the Altai and Katun Natural Reserves, Lake Teletskoye, Belukha Mountain, and the Ukok Plateau. As stated in the UNESCO description of the site, "the region represents the most complete sequence of altitudinal vegetation zones in central Siberia, from steppe, forest-steppe, mixed forest, subalpine vegetation to alpine vegetation".

Wilson Peak is a 4,272 m mountain peak in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is located in the Lizard Head Wilderness of the Uncompahgre National Forest, in the southern San Juan Mountains. It is the highest point in San Miguel County.

The Jungfrau is one of the main summits in the Bernese Alps, situated between the cantons of Valais and Bern in Switzerland. Together with the Eiger and Mönch, the Jungfrau forms a massive wall overlooking the Bernese Oberland and considered one of the most emblematic sights of the Swiss Alps. 
Along with the Aletsch Glacier lying on the south, the Jungfrau is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Protected Area which was declared a World Heritage site in 2001.

Colorado became a state on August 1, 1876 and was the 38th state. Colorado is known as the 'Centennial State' and the actual meaning of the word Colorado is 'colored red'.

Merapi is an active stratovolcano located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548.The mountain was still erupting on 30 November 2010 however due to lowered eruptive activity on 3 December 2010 the official alert status was reduced to level 3. 
I love postcrossing, and I love when people write some interesting facts about their country. Now, I know that there're about 130 volcanoes in Indonesia ;)

#102 Shirakami Mountainous Region, Japan.


Shirakami-Sanchi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Honshū, Japan. This mountainous, unspoiled expanse of virgin forest straddles both Akita and Aomori Prefectures. Of the entire 1,300 km², a tract covering 169.7 km² was included in the list of World Heritage Sites in 1993. Siebold's beech trees make up a large portion of the forest.

Bellwald is a municipality in the district of Goms in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.
It lies at 1600 m and has a population of 450. It is the highest village in Goms, or the upper Rhône River valley. The village lies extremely sunny exposed on the slopes of the mount Risihorn. In the winter season, it is a very pleasant small scale skiing resort. During summertime, it is a place to walk. All year round the panorama of the Alps is astonishing. Farming is declining, tourism is taking its place.
